Confessions of a White Girl

Let me begin with identifying what the term ‘White Girl‘ means for those who are unfamiliar with internet slang.

Urban Dictionary defines this term as:

A creature who often posts pictures of Starbucks on Instagram, Tumblr, or Facebook. Often wears leggings and Ugg Boots and posts about how Nutella is very good when everybody knows it is. You will always see a White Girl with her Ugg Boots on, Leggings on, and IPhone at Starbucks.

I must confess – until this weekend, I had never tried a pumpkin spiced latte. I know that’s basically considered a sin as it’s autumn and all that people do is talk about how much they LOVE a PSL. They post pictures of their Starbucks cups on instagram, choose the right filter and possibly a witty caption – typical white girl insta post. I finally tried the soy pumpkin spiced latte for the first time and, don’t get me wrong, it was nice, but honestly PSLs are so overrated. I would’ve rather had my usual soy milk chai latte instead, but I guess I had to try a PSL at least once in my life (and I didn’t even get a picture to post on instagram in the end)

The second part of my not-so-very-exciting adventure was trying bubble tea for the first time on the same day (I’ve really outdone myself, I’m also currently listening to Taylor Swift’s Fearless album whilst writing this to make matters worse) which was a much more exciting experience as I had never tried anything like it. Whilst wandering through Harrods I decided to buy some watermelon flavoured bubble tea from pan chai, it was both amazing and confusing. I would say overall it really depends on the flavour and I found that the one I tried got a bit too sweet for me after a while. I was convinced that the little balls/bubbles were some weird type of jelly but was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are actually chewy tapioca balls that are extracted from cassava root.

As you can see in the picture above, I’m shamelessly taking pictures of myself with the bubble tea because if it’s not on instagram, it didn’t happen, right?

YO! Sushi in Leamington Spa

I was so happy to hear that YO! Sushi were finally opening in Leamington Spa as I felt like this was exactly what this place was missing – some yummy Japanese food. Having grown up literally next to Japan (without ever seeing it though) there were so many influences from various Asian cuisines in the food I ate that I pretty much grew up eating Asian inspired food without even knowing it, which later on developed into a real passion as I got older. However I quickly reminded myself that I wouldn’t be eating the usual kind of food that I have in Japanese restaurants and YO! Sushi chains because I have recently become vegetarian and try to be as vegan as possible. This meant NO MORE SASHIMI (piercing screams of white girls are heard around the world) that my mum and I always indulge in whenever we go to Japanese restaurants which was devastating, but I made up for it by eating plenty of amazing veggie food that they had to offer. I indulged in plenty of miso soup (which I’m obsessed with at the moment) some vegetable gyoza, vegetable yakisoba, fried aubergine and some kaiso salad which I always eat at YO! anyway.

The restaurant itself was nicely designed and absolutely pristine, with plenty of spaces to eat at the bar or tables, depending on your preference of course. The staff were all so lovely and enthusiastic, I genuinely can’t wait to take my girlfriends out to eat there now, and then pop into Turtle Bay next door for a couple of delish cocktails or Watermelon Crushes!

Introduction

Hi everyone!

This is possibly going to be the crappiest post on earth but I might as well introduce myself and let you all know a little bit about me since I’ve not had a proper blog before. I’m an 18 year old Russian girl who was born in Vladivostok and have been living in England for the last 8 or so years. I’ll be posting about a variety of topics on this blog – fashion, makeup, food, gaming etc as I’m really passionate about a lot of things so I thought that a blog like this would allow me to record all my thoughts and share my ideas in one place. You’ll get to learn a lot more about me through the things I post on here and I hope that not all my posts will be as horrendous and painfully awkward as this one.
